The Steel Bar: What’s So Local about our Local Bar?

April 16, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Dinner and CLE

Ron Schuler’s 2019 book, The Steel Bar: Pittsburgh Lawyers and the Making of America, celebrated the distinct impact of the lawyers of Pittsburgh upon significant moments in American history, from the first test of the U.S. Constitution during the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794, to the rise of corporations and the union movement during the Gilded Age, to the growth of federal law and the decline and rebirth of a great city in the 20th and 21st centuries. Now, during a time of “delocalization” and “remote work,” Schuler looks at the ways in which the concept of a local bar is under threat, how it is responding and working to thrive, and why we should care.
