DESCRIPTION:New Light Congregation\, Beth Shalom\, 5915 Beacon St\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15217.  Live in person and via Zoom. \nHistorian Ron Schuler will talk about the background and life’s work of Barney Dreyfuss—the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team\, pillar of Pittsburgh’s Jewish community\, builder of Forbes Field\, and “inventor” of the World Series—as well as his little-known struggles with Pittsburgh machine politics and his role in helping to stamp out municipal corruption.  Schuler is the author of The Steel Bar: Pittsburgh Lawyers and the Making of America\, and is currently at work on a history/memoir entitled Seven Ballparks in Pittsburgh.
